Spam Alert! Voice Message from Unknown (669-335-7699)

Here's another example of an spam email designed to take advantage of us busy people!  We use a VoIP phone system here and when someone leaves a voicemail, or sends a fax, we get an email alert with the message attached.  So, it's not unusual to get an email like this one.

Spam Alert! Corporate eFax Message

You've probably seen it before; I know I have.   It's one of *those* emails; it's an attempt to take advantage of your trusting nature and of your busy day.  But don't be taken in.  Don't be fooled.  It's spam.

In general, if the email seems hinky it probably is.

Spam Alert! Scan from a Xerox WorkCentre

Fresh out of my inbox here's another piece of spam that could spell disaster for the uninformed or curious user who opens the attachment.  This isn't a new one - it's been around for a few years, but it's making the rounds again.  The attached zip file that comes along with this email is a trojan virus - don't click it!

We don't have a Xerox Multifunction device in our office so that's a dead giveaway that this is garbage.

Sendspace spam may be a blackhole

This morning's crop of junk mail (properly sorted by SmarterMail into my junk email folder!) includes the email I copied below.

According to clicking on any of the links included in the original email (but redacted here for your safety) would bring you to a malicious website.

Anti-virus and malware software – are you up to date?

You already know that you need anti-virus and malware software running on your desktop and server.  But do you know if it's set up properly and doing its job?

Today, our support team fielded a call from a frustrated client who installed a new anti-virus package on his machine on his own but just a day or two later found his computer was slow and unresponsive.
