Facebook CTO Bret Taylor was asked in a Feb 10, 2011 interview with the BBC "what's the biggest tech mistake you've ever made - either at work or in your own life?". His answer? Buying servers instead of renting cloud servers as needed.

While catching up on industry ink this weekend I came across a piece by Joe McKendrick on ZDNet where he posted a recap of a new survey conducted by Osterman Research for Electric Cloud. They polled companies to learn about their average spend on cloud computing resources.

Small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) are not taking the steps necessary to prepare for a disaster or substantial data loss, according to a new survey sponsored by Symantec.

So the first week of the new year is in the books. I hope the next 51 don't go by as quickly. They say it's always better to be busy than bored, but there's much to do and we need to make every minute count this year.
